Evergreen Zine Union began in late 2025, by Sully (she/they) a former life-long Seattlite who moved to Everett and found there was no “cohesive” zine scene locally. There are so many people self-publishing and making zine, comics, and other art, but…the zine scene just wasn’t there. And it outta be.
Now, with a little help from friends and other zinesters there’s a zine meetup monthly, consisting of zine swaps and work parties. In 2026, there *will* (almost certainly, but can’t promise, yet) be a ZINE FEST!
Joining the Union
In the immortal words of The Toasters:
Don’t need no member to let yourself in
You don’t need no language or color of skin
Don’t need no money to make a contribution
To be a part of the Two Tone revolution
Now, I think the guys were specifically referring being a fan of ska, but it applies to the Zine Union (um, plus Sully is kind of a “ska guy”). If you’re making zines/comics/etc., you’re one of us. There’s no application, no cost, nada. Just show up to a meeting and/or connect with us online, be cool, and you’re a “member”!
Founder and all around weird guy (but in a fun way) has a habit of giving things grandiose names, hence the Zine Union. We’re not an associated group or business, just a group of folks who love zines and self-publishing and needed a name to put on a flyer. Sully does own a laminator and if anyone WANTS a membership card, you better believe there will be membership cards.
MISSION
The mission for EZU is to foster an active and welcoming zine scene in Everett, WA (INCLUDING the surrounding areas)! The plan is do this by: getting together to talk about zines; finding local shops and places where zines can be sold/consigned; and just generally making more zines.
Sully’s goal is to have this group be inclusive to all folks making zines, comics, and other self-publishing endeavors – and anyone interested in starting to do it. As well as having this be a safe space for all people.
Hills I Will Die on (In no particular ordeR)
- FUCK (specifically) generative (but also just about all the rest of) AI
- No humans are illegal
- Black Lives Matter
- Pro LGBTQIA+
- Trans rights are human rights
- NO KINGS
- Neurodiversity is welcome!
- Orcas should actually sink MORE boats full of billionaires
More to come. You do not necessarily need to agree with me (Sully) across the board on this, but I guess I kinda hope you do, and that you’re a decent human being.
ABOUT ZINE MEETUPS
We try to choose free locations, often utilizing the public library or patronizing local businesses. Meet ups are typically open to the public but are NOT a sale opportunity, and we ask that all attendees either be people (of ANY skill level) either actively making zines or intending to start making zines. While this group isn’t specifically targeted for youths/teens, they are welcome, unless venue prohibits.
If you are NOT a zinester/comic artist/etc. but are interested in what we do…check out the Zinesters page to see the work of local Union “members”! And keep an eye out for the 2026 EVERGREEN ZINE FEST!
